The Center for Language Education
One of the main goals of the Center for Language Education is preparing our students for life beyond university. It goes without saying that in order to succeed in many of the "international" or "global" career opportunities out there for students, such as jobs in the airline, welfare and or tourism industries, students need a competitive set of English language skills, primarily in the spoken language. English language skills are crucial in today's world, especially in Japan where there is a growing number of foreigners living and working here who speak English and other languages.
To bridge that linguistic and cultural barrier, the English program offers a large selection of courses from the fundamentals of English to oral fluency courses, to advanced reading, writing and practical discussion / conversation courses, which are all aimed at students' specific needs in the industry or career profession they choose to pursue. Below is a list of the courses that are available to our students as well as the programs and / or activities that they can participate in to further develop and hone their communicative abilities. Many of the courses use textbooks and other teaching and learning materials that were developed through the Center.
Upon admission into the university and throughout their four years, students are required to take placement tests to better accommodate and compliment their language needs. As students grow and develop their communicative abilities, their levels change and will need to be placed according to their level of proficiency. We do our best to ensure that all of our students’ needs are met and further developed in a positive and productive learning environment.
