Saburo Kawagoe (born 1959) is a sculptor whose studio is in Oamishirasato City, Chiba Prefecture. He is the creator of Mizu no Kigen (The Origin of Water), a piece installed at Josai International University. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kawagoe studied stone carving under Nobuya Nakai at Tama Art University. Primarily through solo and group exhibitions, he showcases abstract and poetic sculptural works in stone and wood that are inspired by nature. Mizu no Kigen expresses the natural water cycle: rain falls to earth, is heated by the sun, evaporates and forms clouds, and falls to earth again as rain.
This exhibition primarily features his recent creations in stone and wood, as well as works in terracotta and metal. We invite you to explore his creations inspired by Mother Nature and imagine how they look in open-air spaces through a video showing them by the sea and on hillsides.
