The Imaginary Museum of Fossils (2018, Josai University Educational Corporation University Press) by Mori Youko is an illustrated book about fossils, currently on display at the Oishi Fossils Gallery of Mizuta Memorial Museum on the Tokyo Kioicho Campus of this university. Mori Youko has created illustrated books that depict the fantasy world of children, as might be seen in your neighborhood. The scenes expressed by the fine lines drawn with a pencil have the nostalgic charm of the Showa period. This work tells the story of an elementary school student who happens to visit the fossils museum after school, and enters the world of several hundred million years ago, invited by the fossils: swim with a coelacanth, which steps out of the stone, and imagine the character of the Helicoprion, a spiral fossil.
This exhibition presents the original paintings featured in The Imaginary Museum of Fossils, precious fossils of fish and insects that appear in the book and replicas of fossils of feathered dinosaurs. Enjoy the story of fossils, where ancient memories are engraved.
