1. Residence

We arrange lodging in the Global Village on Togane Campus for international students.
(Lodging is provided only for the first year)

Equipment and facilities

The following are provided in each residence so that you can start living in the lodging right away.

Internet (Wi-Fi)

A rice cooker, a vacuum cleaner, a washing machine, and a microwave oven.

Also, a mattress, a comforter, and a pillow (bed available in the room)

Cooking utensils, tableware, and laundry supplies are also provided.

Rent

Advance payment is required in the first year, and from that onwards advance payment for every month is required.

(1) Trash disposal rules

In Japan, all household garbage must be sorted and disposed on the designated day of the week at the designated place. The rules for trash disposal differ between municipalities. Please follow the rules of the local government in Togane.

Oversize Garbage

Furniture and other large items that cannot fit in the garbage bag are subject to collection as "oversize garbage." For this type of garbage, you need to make a collection reservation in advance. Please note that incorrectly disposing oversize garbage is punishable by law.

Disposal of personal computers:

Personal computers are subject to the Home Appliance Recycling Law, and therefore cannot be disposed of with oversize garbage. Consult with your dealer about disposal when you purchase a new computer.

(2) How to use the room/apartment

Take off your shoes at the entrance (genkan)

In Japan, it is customary to take off your shoes at the entrance (genkan). Even if you are living alone, do not wear your shoes inside your apartment.

Keep your apartment clean

When you move out of an apartment in Japan, you are required to return the apartment to its original condition. If you make a mess or break something in your apartment, you will have to repair it when you leave. Please be careful as the cost of such repairs can be very expensive.

(3) Respecting your neighbors

In order to avoid problems caused by noise, please pay attention to the following points, whether you are outside or inside your apartment.

• Do not talk in a loud voice (Whether in person or on the phone)
• Do not listen to music, watch TV, or play music at a high volume
• Do not walk around the room loudly or make loud noises especially at night
• Do not use a vacuum cleaner or washing machine at night
• Do not open or close the door of your room loudly
• It is important to be as quiet as possible between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
• It is customary to greet your neighbors when you move in.

1. Class schedules

(1) Togane and Kioicho Campuses

Mizuta Memorial Library (Togane Campus)

The Mizuta Memorial Library has all the necessary materials education and research at JIU. In addition to books and journals, it manages a collection that includes electronic journals, databases and audio-visual materials, where it currently maintains 300,000 books and a collection of 543 periodicals.

JIU Shop

This is located near the ATM on the first floor of A-building. You can also buy snacks from the stationery store, such as instant noodles, and eat them next to the shop. Here you can also find vending machines selling hot and cold drinks.

Five safety rules for bicycle riding

(1) Bicycles are generally allowed to be ridden on the roadway, but not on the sidewalks

Under the Road Traffic Law, bicycles are regarded as light vehicles. Therefore, in principle, bicycles should be ridden on roads where there is a distinction between roads and sidewalks.

(2) Riding on the left side of the road

Bicycles are required to be ridden on the left side of the road.

(3) On sidewalks, pedestrians have priority

When riding bicycles on sidewalks, you must ride at a speed that allows you to stop immediately for pedestrians (or potential hazards).

(4) Observe safety rules

① Do not drink and ride

Bicycles must not be ridden under the influence of alcohol.

② Riding a bicycle with two passengers is prohibited

Riding with more than one person is prohibited except when the bicycle has been specially adapted for carrying a child under 6 years old.

③ No parallel riding

Riding side by side is prohibited except in areas marked with a "Parallel Riding" sign.

④ Turn on the bicycle lights at night

At night, turn on the front and tail lights (and use reflective equipment).

⑤ Obey traffic signals

Always obey traffic lights and signals.

⑥ Stop at intersections

Obey stop signs and slow down when entering a wide road from a narrow road. Make sure that you can proceed safely.

Major rules to observe when riding bicycles

(Extract from Chiba Prefecture Road Traffic Law Enforcement Bylaws, Article 9)

A fine of up to 50,000 yen

⑧ It is prohibited to ride a bicycle while using mobile phones, etc.

Caution about using bicycles

① About No-Brake Piste bicycle

It is a violation of the Road Traffic Law (defective bicycle braking system) if you ride a competition bicycle called a "no-brake piste" on a public road.

② Paying special attention to visually impaired pedestrians

There have been cases of visually impaired people having their white cane broken by bicyclists while riding. If you see someone walking with a white cane, please slow down, pay special attention and be considerate of others.

What is Suica?

Suica is an IC card issued by the East Japan Railway Company that can be used for trains, buses, and shopping.

One-touch operation through ticket gates

With Suica, you can pass through ticket gates with a single touch on the card reader machine.

When passing through a station, your fare will be automatically adjusted at the ticket gate

By charging the card in advance, you can pay automatically at the ticket gate when you exit the there.

These cards can be used on trains and buses in all areas from Hokkaido to Okinawa

It is possible to use on major railways and buses from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

Cards that can also be used for shopping

You can use the cards as electronic money at stores marked with Suica, Pasmo, etc.

How to purchase a Suica card

(1) At station counters and ticket vending machines

You can purchase Suica at multi-function ticket vending machines and Midori-no-Madoguchi windows at JR East stations within the Suica area, and at Midori-no-Madoguchi windows at stations where the Shinkansen stops.

Types of Suica cards

(1) Suica Commuter Pass

A commuter pass is a card that is only used for designated routes. If you travel outside the route, you will have to pay for the extra fare at the gate.

(2) A Personal Suica card

A personal Suica card is a card with your name printed on it. It can be charged with a deposit and automatically adjusts the fare for the traveled section by simply touching the card reader machine. It can be lost and reissued.

(3) Suica card

A Suica card that can be used by anyone who has charged the card by depositing money into the card. Bearer card.

(4) Mobile Suica

A service that allows users to issue and charge Suica card using their smartphones.

（１）ゴミ捨てのルール

日本では，すべての家庭ごみは分類して，指定された曜日に，指定された場所へ，捨てなければなりません。ゴミ捨てのルールは自治体ごとに異なります。居住地域の自治体のルールにしたがってください。

粗大ごみ

家具などのゴミ袋に入らない大きなものは「粗大ごみ」の回収対象になります。
事前に予約をとる必要があります。なお，粗大ごみを放置すると法律により罰せられます。

※パソコンの処分について

パソコンは家電リサイクル法が適用されるため，粗大ごみには出せません。新しいパソコンを購入する際に，販売店に相談しましょう。

（２）部屋の使い方

玄関で靴を脱ぎましょう

日本の習慣では，靴を玄関で脱ぎます。ひとりで生活していたとしても，部屋の中で靴を履かないようにしましょう。

宿舎はきれいに使いましょう

日本のアパートメントは，退去するときに「現状復帰（元の状態にもどすこと）」が求められます。もし，部屋を汚したり，壊したりしたときには，退去の際に修理をしなければなりません。その修理代金はとても高くなることがあります。

（３）騒音について

騒音によるトラブルを避けるために，家の外でも自室にいても，以下のことに注意をしてください。

• 大きな声で話をしない。（対面でも電話でも）
• 大音量で音楽を聴いたり，TVを見たり，演奏したりしない。
• 部屋の中を大きな足音を立てて歩かない
• 夜中に掃除機や洗濯機をかけない
• 部屋のドアの開閉は静かに
• 日本では特に夜10時から朝7時の間は静かにすべき時間帯です。

• 日本での生活を楽しもう。
• 日本人学生や地域の人々とも積極的に交流しましょう。
• 地域のイベントに参加するのもおすすめです。
• イベント情報は国際教育センターで入手可能です。
• まずは知り合う為に，引っ越しをしたら近隣にご挨拶しましょう。

自転車安全利用五則

(1) 自転車は，車道が原則，歩道は例外

道路交通法上，自転車は軽車両と位置づけられています．したがって，歩道と車道の区別のあるところは車道通行が原則です．

(2) 車道は，左側を通行

自転車は道路の左端に寄って通行しなければなりません．

(3) 歩道は歩行者優先で，車道寄りを徐行

歩道を走行する場合は，すぐに停止できる速度で，歩行者の通行を妨げるときには一時停止しなければなりません．

(4) 安全ルールを守る

① 飲酒運転は禁止

自転車も飲酒運転は禁止．

② 二人乗りは禁止

6歳未満の子供を乗せるなどの場合を除き，二人乗り禁止．

③ 並進は禁止

「並進可」標識のある場所以外では，並進は禁止．

④ 夜間はライトを点灯

夜間は，前照灯及び尾灯（又は反射器材）をつける．

⑤信号を守る

信号を必ず守る．信号機のある場合は，その信号に従う．

⑥ 交差点での一時停止と安全確認

一時停止の標識を守り，狭い道から広い道に出る時は徐行．安全確認を忘れずに．

(5) 自転車の利用に関する注意

① ノーブレーキピストについて　

ノーブレーキピストと呼ばれる競技用自転車で公道を走行した場合，道路交通法違反（自転車の制動装置不良）になります．

② 自転車での白杖破損

視覚障害のある方が，目の代わりと言える白杖を走行中の自転車に折られるケースが発生しています．白杖をみたら，自転車の速度を緩めるなど，譲り合いの気持ちを持ちましょう．

Suicaは，鉄道，バス，買い物などで利用できるJR東日本のICカードです！

ワンタッチで改札機を通過

パスケースに入れたまま，読み取り部にタッチするだけで自動的に精算され，改札機をスイスイ通過できます．

乗り越しても，改札機で自動精算

あらかじめ入金（チャージ）することで, 改札を出る時に改札機で自動精算できます．

北海道から沖縄まで，各エリアにおける鉄道・バス等の利用が可能

北海道から沖縄まで主な鉄道・バス等の利用が可能になります．

買い物時にも使用可能

SuicaやPASMO等のマークのあるお店では，SF（電子マネー）として使用することが可能です．

Suicaの購入方法

(1) 駅窓口・券売機で　

Suicaエリア内のJR東日本の駅の多機能券売機・みどりの窓口，新幹線停車駅のみどりの窓口等で購入できます．

Suicaの種類

(1) Suica定期券　

定期券の機能と，入金（チャージ）しておくことにより定期券区間外でも改札機にタッチするだけで自動的に精算できるSuica．

(2) My Suica（記名式）

入金（チャージ）しておくことにより，改札機にタッチするだけで自動的に乗車区間の運賃を精算できるSuica. 紛失再発行可.

(3) Suicaカード

入金（チャージ）しておくことにより，改札機にタッチするだけで自動的に乗車区間の運賃を精算できる，持参人式．

(4) モバイルSuica

スマートフォン上でSuicaの発行・チャージ等が可能なサービス．
