Aiming to facilitate support for Japanese-language education in Yamatake City, Chiba Prefecture, where the number of foreign residents is rapidly increasing, the University and Yamatake City concluded on January 18 a "Collaboration Agreement between Yamatake City and Yamatake City Board of Education and Josai International University for Supporting Japanese-Language Education for Foreign Children". Taking this opportunity, we will further focus on supporting not only Japanese language education for foreign students, but also for teachers and staff who teach Japanese to children.

The number of foreign children and students attending elementary and junior high schools in Sanmu City has increased from 35 at the end of the year before last to 72 at the end of last year. Of these, 80% are Sri Lankan, and come from a wide variety of countries and regions, including China, Vietnam, and South Korea. In some classes, 10% of students are foreigners.

Our university has a separate department to strengthen the Japanese language skills of international students who come to Japan, and we have a Japanese teacher training course as a minor in the Department of Department of International Exchange Studies, Faculty of Faculty of International Humanities We support Japanese language education in the city. Professor Chiga Hayashi gives advice on communication points for teachers who teach Japanese to children in the classroom. We provide opportunities to get to know each other and achieve results.

At the signing ceremony held at Sammu City Hall, Mayor Hiroaki Matsushita made a speech, saying, "Development of human resources capable of supporting Japanese language education is an important issue for the city, and I would like Josai International University to cooperate further with this agreement."
