Takumi Ando (4th year, Faculty of International Humanities Department of International Exchange Studies) represented Japan at the 2024 Asian Triathlon Para Championships held in Subic Bay (Philippines) on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Ando competed in the PTS5 class. He competed in a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run, recording a time of 1:13:25. He achieved the excellent result of coming in second place.
Please continue to give your warm support to Ando, who will continue to be active not only in Japan but also on the world stage.
Thank you for your support. This race was held in a tough environment with 80% humidity and temperatures exceeding 30℃. I am disappointed because I was aiming to win the race, but I was able to make it to the podium and use this experience to improve my performance. I was also able to address some of my weaknesses, so I will continue to train hard every day so that I can keep up with the world's best competitors. Thank you for your continued support.
*In paratriathlons, participants are divided into classes according to the type and degree of their disability, and competitions are held in each class to determine the winner. Ando's class is for standing athletes with physical disabilities such as amputations and paralysis, and is divided into four classes according to the degree of disability. Some athletes are allowed to wear prosthetics or other equipment, or customize their equipment so they can pedal a bicycle with a prosthetic leg, and use or improve equipment to suit their disability. The lower the number from PTS2 to PTS5, the more severe the disability, and the higher the number, the less severe the disability. <Quoted from the Paratriathlon Guide by the Japan Para Sports Association, a Public Interest Foundation>
