The 2024 Fall Commencement and Graduation Ceremony was held on August 31st at the Chiba Togane Campus, with 282 students celebrating the occasion.
The participants on this special day were 46 graduate students (including 5 doctoral students), 146 undergraduate students, 16 Japanese Studies Program, and 74 exchange students. Of these, 199 students were international students from 15 countries and regions, including China, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Canada, Cambodia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Finland, France, Vietnam, and Poland, who had worked hard to make their learning in Japan bear fruit.
In his opening address, University President Kurabayashi Masato stated that steady efforts towards realizing an inclusive society are slowly but surely beginning to take shape. "We are also required to face the successive innovations in information technology and artificial intelligence head on and use them appropriately to connect to new values, new ways of working, and a new society," he said. "No matter what world you find yourself in, I expect you to maintain the awareness and attitude of continuing to learn, and to fully utilize the power of 'awareness' that you have honed on the diverse campus that is unique to IUJ."
Graduation representative Xu Wei-ching (Faculty of International Humanities) reflected on her life at university, saying, "Over the past two years, I have been able to experience a wide variety of university life. Thanks to the many valuable opportunities that JIU has provided us, I have not only been able to gain in-depth specialized knowledge, but also to broaden my horizons through contact with diverse cultures."
