Two members of our university's surfing club participated in the 59th All Japan Surfing Championships, held at Shizunami Beach in Makinohara City, Shizuoka Prefecture from Saturday, October 11th to Saturday, October 18th, 2025, and won second place in the shortboard junior men's class and shortboard junior women's class, respectively.
This is Japan's top surfing competition, where elite surfers who have won qualifying rounds held in 70 branches across the country gather to compete for the top spot in Japan, with heated battles unfolding in a variety of events, including shortboarding, longboarding, and bodyboarding. All competitions are held in heats, with competitors riding multiple waves within the time limit, and rankings are determined by the total score of the top two waves. Judges comprehensively evaluate the difficulty of the moves, creativity, and use of the waves.
The Shortboard Junior Men's and Junior Women's classes in which our university competed are open to men and women born between 2000 and 2006, and are a high-level category in which many aspiring professional surfers participate. Among them, Anna Kubo, a fourth-year student Faculty of Management and Information Sciences, and Taiki Kanazawa, a first-year student Faculty of International Humanities, survived a fierce battle to take second place.
The Surfing Club is also scheduled to compete in the All Japan University Surfing Championships, which will be held this month from Saturday, October 25th to Sunday, October 26th at Tojo Beach (Maruki Point) in Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture. We appreciate your continued support for Josai International University Surfing Club.
