As part of the "Kojimachi Partnership" concluded with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Kojimachi Police Station (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) in January 2024, our university produced a 15-minute earthquake disaster prevention educational video drama, "Dr. Earthquake! A Family's Great Disaster Prevention Strategy." To mark the completion of the video, a screening was held on November 5th at Josai International University University's Tokyo Kioicho Campus, and a letter of appreciation was presented to the students involved in the production by Takayuki Urabe, Chief of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Kojimachi Police Station.

Filming on campus

A scene from the film

At the premiere screening, Assistant Professor Nakagawa expressed his joy at the completion of the film, saying, "The theme of this film is an earthquake that will occur in the future, and I created it with the hope that people will feel a sense of crisis about it. I hope that through this film, the younger generation will spread the idea of how to overcome a crisis with the people around them." Mitsumi Kaneko, a fourth-year student in Film and Performing Arts Course at the School of Faculty of Media Studies who was involved in the production, also talked about the ingenuity used during production, saying, "We paid particular attention to the sound in the disaster scene at the beginning. In order to achieve realism, we combined several types of sounds, such as sounds from actual training and the sound of rubble, in order to better convey the fear of an earthquake."
Urabe Kojimachi Police Station Chief expressed his expectations, saying, "I was amazed at how well-made it was. As it was made by students from a university in the jurisdiction, it will likely gain sympathy from the local community, and we expect this to be effective. We would like to actively use it for disaster prevention training and awareness-raising activities. We look forward to maintaining a long-term relationship with the university."
