Students experiencing English-language guiding

Students experiencing English-language guiding
On May 22nd, seven students from Associate Professor Sayuri Shibasaki's seminar in Faculty of Tourism participated in a practical program at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, where they learned English guiding techniques under the guidance of the local guide group, "Narita Volunteer Guide Association."
The students will use what they learned in this program to provide English-language guided tours for foreign visitors to the temple in October.
On the day of the event, 20 students from Spelman College, a private university in Georgia, USA, with which our university has maintained exchanges since 2003, also participated. Through observing members of a local guide group explaining history and worship etiquette to the international students in English, the students learned practical guiding techniques and methods of expression.
The English-language guided tour lasted approximately 90 minutes, during which the students diligently took notes as they observed the guide explaining things to students from Spelman College, deepening their learning and preparing to apply what they learned in practice.

Haruki Iwasaki, a third-year student in Department of Tourism said, "I was impressed by the way the guides engaged the audience with casual conversation. I want to use this experience to improve my skills so that I can provide polite and heartfelt guidance to foreign tourists," expressing his enthusiasm for the English guiding practice in October.
Seven Department of Tourism students who recently learned English guiding are scheduled to make their debut as English guides in October. Going forward, they will be working on refining their guiding content and preparing their scripts in preparation for their debut.
