“Effects of Dexamethasone on Pica Behavior and Infiltration of Inflammatory Cells into Small Intestinal Mucosa in the Rat Model of Cisplatin-induced Nausea
(Effects of dexamethasone on pica behavior and infiltration of inflammatory cells into the small intestinal mucosa in cisplatin-induced nausea model rats)

Cisplatin, an anti-cancer drug, causes nausea and vomiting as side effects, so dexamethasone is used in combination to suppress these side effects. However, why is dexamethasone, a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, effective against nausea and vomiting caused by anti-cancer drugs? The mechanism of action was not well understood. Miura and his colleagues demonstrated that immune cells accumulate in the small intestine of experimental animals administered cisplatin, causing inflammation, and that this is suppressed by administration of dexamethasone.
