Community activity practice - Physical and cognitive function measurement of Togane City residents -

Chiba On October 7 and 8, students from Department of Physical Therapy and Department of Nursing collaborated in a two-day event to measure physical fitness and cognitive function for elderly residents of Togane City in the prefecture.

This project was implemented in collaboration with the Togane City Elderly Support Division. Approximately 140 people visited our university over two days at our university's Sports Culture Center, and 22 students from Department of Physical Therapy, 12 students from Department of Nursing, and our faculty worked together to improve the physical function of the participants. We measured cognitive function.
Cognitive function to screen for mild cognitive impairment by measuring respiratory function such as lung capacity and how much air you can exhale in one second, measuring the shape and range of motion of the spine, as well as testing memory and attention. We have prepared programs such as measurements that you will not have many opportunities to experience at other measurement sessions.
The students were able to deepen their learning in a practical setting by explaining and implementing each measurement item to the participants while cooperating with students from other departments, with an eye toward future team collaboration and multidisciplinary collaboration. Ta.

One participant said, ``I was able to learn about my own physical functions and cognitive functions such as memory through measurements that I would not normally experience, and I would like to participate again.''
We would like to thank all the Togane City Hall staff for their full cooperation and the Togane citizens who participated.
