3 Universities Collaborative Disaster Prevention Picture-story Show Multilingual Project

Masaomi Nakagawa's Seminar (Japan-Korea Exchange Seminar) Department of Inter-cultural Studies is working on the translation and video production of a picture-story show that conveys the lessons of the Great East Japan Earthquake. In this project, the seminars of Josai International University, Kanda University of International Studies, and Miyagi Gakuin Women's University collaborate to convey the importance of disaster prevention and life to children around the world.
Students studying early childhood education at Miyagi Gakuin Women's University and members of Hiyori Kindergarten's Bereaved Family Volunteers Group created a picture-story show for disaster preparedness, "Don't forget your little life and that day." Masaomi Nakagawa's seminar at our university translates this picture-story show into Korean, Makiko Uemura's seminar at Kanda University of International Studies translates it into Chinese, and Yuko Sawabe's seminar at Miyagi Gakuin Women's University translates it into "easy-to-understand" Japanese for foreigners.
On September 8, students from the three universities visited the disaster-stricken area of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, toured the remains of the earthquake disaster and the Miyagi East Japan Tsunami Memorial Museum, and held a joint exchange of opinions among the three universities. In addition, at the open Research symposium "Results and challenges of the multilingual picture book reading project through Japan-China-Korea trilingual collaboration" held on September 9, Yurika Futatsumori (3rd year Korean course) and Asami Ito (3rd year Korean course) gave an interim presentation on the theme of "Practical application of the disaster prevention picture storytelling project."
The multilingual translation will be translated into three languages, and will be donated to Hiyori Kindergarten Bereaved Volunteer Association and Miyagi East Japan Tsunami Tradition Center by March 11 next year.
