Enrollment process Application Guidelines

If you are interested in studying Japanese, please first confirm your eligibility and prepare your application according to the guidelines.
The Josai International University Japanese Language Program offers two enrollment periods per year, in April and September.
Below is a brief overview of the process from application to enrollment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime!

STEP 1: Verify eligibility requirements

Please read the application guidelines carefully to confirm your eligibility. You can download the guidelines here.
For any questions regarding eligibility requirements, please feel free to contact us.

Mail: bekka@jiu.ac.jp TEL: 0475-55-8849

STEP 2: Submit your application

Please read the application guidelines carefully, prepare the required documents, and submit them to the university by the deadline.
For applicants applying from overseas, please scan your completed documents and email them to bekka@jiu.ac.jp in advance.
We will contact you if any documents are missing or incomplete.
Once your application is processed, an admission ticket for examination will be sent to you via email (or by post for applicants within Japan) at least five days before the examination date.

STEP 3: Selection

The selection process consists of a document review and an interview with the applicant conducted in Japanese.
If you are residing overseas at the time of your application, the interview will be held online.

STEP 4: Notification of results and enrollment procedures

Examination results will be sent via email (or by post for applicants within Japan).
If you are accepted, please submit the enclosed enrollment documents and complete the payment of tuition and other required fees.
Once these have been confirmed, we will issue and send your Letter of Acceptance.

STEP 5: Application for Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

After completing the enrollment procedures, you must undergo a document review by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan to obtain a student visa.
The university will handle this application process on your behalf.
Once the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is issued, you will apply for your visa at the Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country.

  • If you hold a residence status other than student visa, please contact us separately.

STEP 6: Immigration procedures

We will work together with you to prepare for your arrival, including coordinating your travel schedule and finalizing your housing arrangements.
Upon your arrival in Japan, university staff will be there to greet you at the airport.
