Two teams from our university participated in the 10th Tokyo International Projection Mapping Awards, held on November 15th in front of the Tokyo Big Sight Conference Tower (Koto-ku, Tokyo). "Swatan J," made up of alumni and current students, won the Grand Prize.
Team name: Suwatan J
Video title: "-Flux-"

Team name: Shimmers
Video title: "BEYOND WORLD"

This award is one of the largest projection mapping competitions in Japan, held every November on the wall of Tokyo Big Sight as a screen.
In Vol.5 in 2020, a student team from our university won the Excellence Award.
Since then, the program has continued to pass the preliminary rounds, and this year marks the sixth consecutive year that a total of eight works have been screened in the finals. In addition, from Vol.10 onwards, participation by non-students has been allowed, and for the first time, a team of alumni and current students has been formed.
Of the 50 total submissions, 23 were screened in the finals.
Although the production period was limited to just three months, from July to October, the students mobilized all of the creativity and skills they had cultivated in class to create the piece.
Among the entries, our university's team's work, "-Flux-," was awarded the grand prize after rigorous judging.

The winner of the Grand Prize was "Swatan J"
The team consists of Keisuke Asano, a graduate of our Faculty of Media Studies, and current student Karen Tosho (3rd year, Faculty of Media Studies).
・Mr. Asano (graduate)
When I first enrolled, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing, but under those circumstances, I participated in the production of three works to be submitted to awards.
Armed with the animation and CG production techniques and storytelling skills he learned while at school, he finally won the grand prize on his fourth attempt this year after graduating.
・Mr. Miyako (current student)
This is his second time participating in the event. He has been following in the footsteps of his seniors as he works on his creations, and says he plans to use the experience he gained this time in his future creative endeavors.

I interpreted the theme of this year's competition, "Voyage," as "a journey of the imagination into a world that is normally out of sight," and created this work.
This work depicts the experience of entering the inside of a vending machine and traveling through an unknown space until coins are transformed into products.
Highlights include the gimmick of the Big Sight wall rising up, the grid-based design, and smooth transitions that unfold without the use of blackouts or brightening, as well as the continuous flow of the visual expression.
