Japanese Studies Program

2023.12.20

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, we held a Japanese culture training course for Japanese Studies Program. The training destination this time was Ikebukuro. In preparation for this day, the students divided into groups during preparatory classes and worked together to develop a schedule and goals for the training. On the day of the event, they first went to Tokyo Anime Station to learn about how anime is produced, while also enjoying past masterpieces and the latest works. In the afternoon, they participated in a disaster prevention experience at the Ikebukuro Disaster Prevention Center. There are four courses this time: VR experience, fire extinguishing experience, earthquake experience, and smoke experience. Through my experience, I learned what I need to be careful about so that I can live safely in Japan, a disaster-prone country. Many of the students had never experienced an earthquake or came from areas that rarely experience disasters, so the training seemed to be impressive.

After this, we experienced an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 7. We learned about the characteristics of smoke and evacuation methods, and experienced it for ourselves.
