Research ethics review involving human subjects Basic information about the university

Regarding applications for research ethics review involving human subjects

"Research on human subjects" refers to research conducted by collecting (including questionnaire surveys) or extracting information and data on the physical and mental health, behavior, environment, etc. of individuals using humans or human-derived samples.

When faculty members of our university conduct "research involving human subjects," they must apply to and obtain approval from our university's "Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects" in advance. When graduate students of our university conduct "research involving human subjects," they must also receive approval in advance from the "Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects," just like faculty members.

Please first check whether or not a research ethics review is required for your research plan in question in the "Application Procedure (1) Determining the Necessity of Research Ethics Review for Human Subjects" below. If a research ethics review is required, please prepare a set of documents to be submitted in accordance with "Application Procedure (2) Preparation and Submission of Application Documents" and submit them to the research ethics officer in your department by the application deadline set within your department.

For graduate student research, the student's supervisor must apply.

Based on the application documents you have submitted, the "Ethics Review Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects" will conduct an ethics review of your research involving human subjects.
