A new book written by experts on immigration and multicultural policy, including Prof. Endoh (Dean of GSIA and the editor of the book) and Prof. Iwamoto (Prof. of Tourism), "Open Borders, Open Society? Immigration and Social Integration in Japan," has been published by Verlag Barbara Budrich in Germany.

This book covers issues such as refugees from Ukraine, Myanmar, Syria, and Kurdistan, Japan's immigration system which has claimed many victims including a Sri Lankan woman named Ushma; Japanese language education for foreign residents and disaster preparedness; the diversity of the rapidly growing Vietnamese population; and Japanese society and industry as seen through the eyes of "foreigners," and is explained from the perspectives of political science, cultural anthropology, sociology, tourism, linguistics, and policy research.

It highlights the gap between an increasingly multicultural society and national policies that have not kept pace, and offers suggestions and policy recommendations to resolve the issues. Please take a look and read our faculty’s new book.
