Class of April 2024
I decided to go to graduate studies to further develop my background in Business Administration. Being in Japan, where the tourism industry is highly developed, motivated me to study this field.
I chose GSIA because it offers not only business courses but also classes in areas such as international policy and tourism. GSIA‘s strong international focus and interdisciplinary structure allow students to study tourism from multiple perspectives, not just from a business point of view. What I appreciate most is the supportive professors and flexible academic environment, which have helped me grow both academically and personally. I also appreciate the field study opportunities and the learning facilities.
My research focuses on theatre-based tourism in Ishikawa Prefecture and its role in post-disaster recovery. I conducted interviews with tourists, local residents and relevant stakeholders to explore how theatre activities influence tourism and community rebuilding. I am particularly interested in how cultural initiatives can contribute to long-term regional development.
I’m in Professor Goro Komatsu’s seminar, where we regularly present our research and receive feedback. Through his guidance, I developed a stronger interest in data analysis and learned to think more critically about my work. In my second year, I served as the zemichou, supporting communication and activities within the seminar. I truly enjoyed the time we spent exchanging ideas together. In the future, I hope to apply my language skills and research experience in an international industry.
Focus on your studies at school, but make sure you also make time to explore. Travel around Japan, see new places, and experience different cultures. You’ll grow just as much from those experiences.
