On September 28, 2022, Dr. Jan Skopecek, Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, visited Tokyo Kioicho Campus and exchanged opinions with President Kenji Sugibayashi and faculty members. Dr. Skopecek visited Japan on the occasion of the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe. Mr. Martin Tomco, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Japan, who visited the Chiba Togane Campus in March, was also in attendance. Daniela Ryugo, a lecturer in charge of Czech language and culture education at JIU, and a recipient of the "Gratias agit Award" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic last October, also joined the discussion.

Dr. Skopecek, who specializes in economics and teaches at the University of Economics in Prague, was very interested in visiting a Japanese university. Thus, his visit to our university, which has partner universities in the Czech Republic and is one of the few universities in Japan that offers Czech language courses, was realized. Shinichi Ishii, Associate Professor at the Graduate School of International Administration, who specializes in infrastructure management and business strategy, joined the discussion and shared his views not only on the economy and investment in both countries, but also on a wide range of global issues such as environmental and population problems. Dr. Skopecek seemed surprised at the high rate of mask wearing among Japanese people. They talked about Japanese customs and culture, which brought them closer together.

Dr. Skopecek has offered to give an online lecture for JIU students at a future date. We will continue our efforts to strengthen the excellent relationship between JIU and the Czech Republic.
